Donating film
Members of the public and organisations have the opportunity to deposit their films with the NRFTA for safe keeping and long term preservation. Unlike books and periodicals, there is no legal requirement for film and television material to be deposited into an archive for future generations. We depend on individuals voluntarily depositing material so we can preserve the past for the future.
The NRFTA cares for large film and TV collections as well as smaller collections of private films and videos. The collections fall into the following areas, all relating in some way to daily life, work and culture in the North East:
- Industrial film
- Advertisements
- Educational and training
- Television news and programming
- Amateur film productions
- Home movies
